Technorati Tags Revisited

Hi everyone! No, haven't fallen off the ends of the earth, just real busy with these virtual book tours, but I'm still getting email asking for help with adding tags to blogs.

So, what I think I'll do is make it as simple as I can.

1. Go to www.technorati.com and claim your blog.

2. Go back to your blog and whatever post you want to add your tags to, bring that up.

3. At the top of the page, you'll see two buttons to the top right. One says "Edit Html" and the other says "compose." Hit "Edit Html." This will turn your blog post into an html code.

4. At the very bottom of this html, you'll be typing in your technorati tag. I was helping one of my authors, Lynn Voedisch, with hers so what I will give you is the html code for adding her name to the tag code.

5. Now, let's say she wanted to add her book title. She would copy the same code above but put her book title where lynn+voedisch is remembering the + sign and her book title in the place that's after the > and before the

It would look like this:
And so forth.

Always remember to put a comma and a space in between each set of tag codes so that it doesn't all run together.

6. If you are finished adding tags, hit "compose" and everything will return back to normal and, voila, there are your technorati tags all linked up.

7. Publish your blog post.

8. When your blog post comes up in the published format, go down to your tags and click on one. It should lead you to technorati for that set of tag words. One important thing...whatever you want to show up in the technorati search engines for your key serach words, use them in each and every post whether you've used them in the text part or not. Your goal is to always be number one and you can do this if you use them each and every time you post and you post frequently. You don't post frequently and you lose your position.

9. While you are at the technorati page, go all the way to the bottom and you'll see "ping us" at the bottom left. Hit it.

10. The next page that comes up...it varies...sometimes it'll list all your blogs and you'll look for the blog you've just published and "ping it." Other times, it'll have a page where you add your blog link, then hit "ping us." Either way, you're letting technorati know that you've just published a blog post and this will trigger their spiders to find you.

And that, my friends, is about the easiest way I know of to tell you.

I do have something else to add. Labels and tags are two separate things. Labels are just words that when clicked on, leads the reader to other posts you have that you have labeled those words with. Tags will take you to the search engines and what the search engine spiders use to find you.

Good luck and may the force be with you. ;o)
